The South Dakota Legislature has adopted a resolution recognizing the life and accomplishments of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, reflecting the impact he had on conservative politics both within the state and nationally.

House Concurrent Resolution HCR 6002 was introduced by District 1 Representative Logan Manhart and was approved by a wide margin in the South Dakota House of Representatives.

Resolution Recognizes Kirk’s Life and Achievements

HCR 6002 honors the life and achievements of Charlie Kirk, a conservative organizer and founder of Turning Point USA, an organization that has played a major role in engaging young Americans in conservative causes. The resolution notes Kirk’s influence on civic engagement and conservative activism.

Logan Manhart, who is among the youngest members of the South Dakota Legislature, publicly shared that he brought the resolution to the State House and that it passed with strong bipartisan support.

Vote and Support in the House

The resolution received a 60-5 vote in the South Dakota House, with the majority of members voting in favor. According to available records, all five opposing votes came from Democratic members, and several lawmakers were absent or excused.

The vote demonstrates substantial legislative support in South Dakota for recognizing Kirk’s contributions to conservative political movements and youth engagement.

Broader Context

Charlie Kirk was widely known for his work organizing young conservatives and advocating for conservative principles in American civic life. His influence has extended through Turning Point USA’s programs, events, and public commentary, particularly on college campuses and in national political discourse.

In bringing HCR 6002 forward, Manhart cited Kirk’s legacy and the importance of acknowledging figures who have shaped political engagement among younger Americans.

What This Means for South Dakota

For conservative lawmakers and activists in South Dakota, the resolution serves not just as a symbolic honor but also as an acknowledgment of the values and activism that Kirk represented. The bipartisan nature of the vote further signals the legislature’s interest in honoring civic contributions regardless of party lines.
